Varietal character with regional origins

Continuing their 25 year celebrations, Angullong has released its 2022 Angullong ‘Fossil Hill’ Barbera ($30) and 2022 Angullong ‘Fossil Hill’ Sangiovese ($30).

The 2022 vintage wines from Angullong see the vineyard coming of age. The winery’s recent show success has resulted in two trophies and eight gold medals for a range of their wines.

“The 2022 wines were made by Orange winemaker Jeff Byrne,” says Angullong’s owner Ben Crossing. “Jeff has brought a new approach to our winemaking and the results are pleasing.

“Our philosophy is to present wines with true varietal character, while showing their cool climate origins. We have a range of emerging varieties in the portfolio, and each one expresses diversity and drinkability.”

The late, cool ripening of the region’s 2022 vintage saw the grapes develop outstanding fruit purity and intensity. It is a vintage that is developing into one of the region’s best.

“Having Jeff work with us is helping take our wines to the next level,” continues Ben. “The recent wine show success, across a range of our wines at the Orange Show and the NSW Wine Awards, has given us confidence that we are on the right track.”
