David Cumming & Jane Gordon established Define Wine Marketing & Communications in 2005.

Over the past 20 years Define Wine Marketing & Communications has evolved in to one of Australia’s leading wine marketing and communications businesses.

DAVID CUMMING possesses extensive marketing experience within the wine industry. His family established Mountilford Wines in 1977 near Mudgee, New South Wales.

Following three years with the National Australia Bank, David completed a Bachelor of Business (Agricultural Commerce), majoring in Marketing.

From 1995 to 2005, he held senior marketing and management positions with several leading wine companies, including Rothbury Estate in the Hunter Valley, Southcorp Wines Ltd in Sydney, and later Barossa Valley Estate, BRL Hardy Ltd, and Xanadu Normans Wine Group in Adelaide.

David has also been closely involved with the development of small and emerging wine businesses. He co-founded Next Generation Wines (NXG), an export-only enterprise that was recognised as the Business SA Regional Exporter of the Year in its second year of operation, before being acquired by Xanadu Wines in Margaret River.

In 2002, David established Fox Gordon Wines, a boutique winery specialising in premium wines from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills regions.

In 2018, David co-founded The Lane Cellars in Orange, New South Wales. The independent retail business was established to showcase premium wines, beers, and spirits from the Orange region and beyond, and has since become one of the leading wine retailers in the NSW Central West.

He has contributed numerous articles to industry and lifestyle publications, including a weekly wine column for the Central Western Daily (2005–2010), as well as features in Blue Mountains Life and Australian Wine Business Monthly.

In 2005, David founded Define Wine Marketing & Communications, which provides strategic marketing, branding, and communications services to clients across Australia and New Zealand.

JANE GORDON possesses extensive business experience across a wide range of sectors, including finance, wine, agriculture, and mining.

She was one of the eponymous founding directors of Fox Gordon Wines, where she played a pivotal role in establishing and growing the boutique wine business.

Jane has also been involved in regional enterprise transformation. She served as an integral member of Paraway Pastoral Company, supporting its transition from Sydney to its head office in Orange, New South Wales.

In the finance sector, Jane held the role of Manager, Premier Adviser Services at Rothschild Australia Asset Management in Sydney from 1994 to 1997, overseeing client services and supporting high-net-worth investment management.

Jane has also contributed to public policy and project management initiatives. From 2019 to 2020, she served as Project Manager at Kristine Battye Consulting Pty Ltd (KBC Australia).

Alongside her wine, agricultural, and consulting work, Jane has held key administrative and operational roles in the mineral exploration sector, providing office management, strategic support and shareholder liaison to several exploration companies.

Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Business (Agricultural Commerce) and a Diploma of Financial Planning.

Jane is based in Orange, NSW, and continues to integrate her expertise across business operations, agribusiness, finance, public policy projects, and the wine industry.
