The Lane Cellars opens in Albury

Independent bottle shop, The Lane Cellars has recently opened its second store in Albury, NSW.

The new store is modelled on the existing Orange store, showcasing a range of boutique beer, wine and cider from local producers, complemented by a diverse range of interesting and iconic products from across Australia. The Albury collection of wines is skewed to nearby regions including Rutherglen, Beechworth, Tumbarumba and the Alpine region.

The Lane Cellars was established by ex-brewer, Campbell Hedley and wine marketing professional David Cumming. “The Orange store has shown that customers appreciate and support businesses that support local,” said Cumming. “Our stores makes no apology about being local-centric. The local wines aren’t tucked away in the back corner, but rather have pride of place alongside the best wines of Australia.

“There are many great producers in the region that aren’t all that well known. Winegrowers such as Eldorado Road, Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown and Sentio in Beechworth, and the likes of Scion in Rutherglen are creating modern interpretations of the region’s wines. These complement the better known winemakers such as the iconic Giaconda, Castagna, Savaterre, Cofield and Valhalla.

“We stock a diverse range of craft brewers including local brewer Bridge Road and others from across Australia. We also stock some carefully selected internationals, with new weird and wonderful brews coming in all the time,” explained Hedley.

“We are focussed on bringing small batch, independent beer to the regions, highlighting some of the best craft beer makers, including the award-winning Mountain Culture, NZ’s Garage Project, Quiet Deeds and Capital Brewing. These are complemented by the growing non-alcoholic segment including Modus Operandi Nort, Heaps Normal and Sobah.

“Our goal is to make good beer as accessible as possible and to encourage people to get in and try something new! We’re a flexible and nimble shop and so can access small parcels of great beers which are great for our Beer Club members who get access to these first.”

“We are thrilled to have Chris Brown join us as our Albury Store Manager. Chris has a wealth of experience, having worked with Clonakilla and Thirsty Crow Brewing. Chris is joined by Mellissa Bowen who has years of experience working alongside a number of Beechworth winegrowers,” explained Cumming.

“It is certainly challenging to open during the pandemic, however local support has been fantastic. Once things settle down, we will be hosting our ‘Meet your Maker’ tastings with local winemakers and brewers. These have proven to be great fun, with our winemakers getting a chance to show their wines in a casual and intimate environment. We will also be offering local deliveries in the very near future.”
