Canowindra’s The Natural Wine Co. has received international recognition being recently awarded a gold medal at The Global Organic & Vegan Wine Masters 2021 with its 2020 Natural Wine Co Shiraz.
The Global Organic & Vegan Wine Masters is supported by The Drinks Business UK, and judges certified wines from around the world, and is open to all styles of wine.
As described by The Global Masters, “Our judging panel will, as ever, be comprised exclusively of Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and senior buyers, judging the wines exclusively by style and price. The calibre of the judges guarantees international recognition of all the medals awarded. There has never been a more exciting time for organic wine, and the Global Organic & Vegan Wine Masters will recognise the very best wines in this rapidly developing category.”
The Natural Wine Co. winemaker, Anthony D’Onise was particularly excited to have received this prestigious award. “We are delighted with the result. We have received some awesome recognition for our organic wines during the last few years and, with the calibre of the judges in this competition, this gold medal is very rewarding.
“Our Natural Wine Co Shiraz is not only organic it is also made without the addition of preservatives. This is an extra winemaking challenge, but one we have embraced. The market is also taking to these more natural wines, both within Australia and now internationally.”
Owner and vigneron Jason O’Dea added, “The timing of this award is perfect as we have recently exported this wine to the United Kingdom. This award is recognition that we are competitive on a global scale with the quality of our wines, not to mention the price.
“With exports of red wine to China drying up, this is a major boost to not only our business, but the region. We had to pivot quickly to alternate markets, and the United Kingdom was impressed with what we are making. Congratulations to team natural.”
