“We were thrilled to be recognised for our Rieslings and Pinot Noir,” said winemaker and owner Rob Diletti. “These are the varieties our site excels in, and to have the team acknowledged for the dedication and focus we’ve put into them is certainly rewarding.
“Our aim is always to produce Riesling with fruit purity, finesse and balance; wines that truly reflect this unique Australian region. We’re confident in our site and are currently expanding the vineyard with further plantings of Riesling and Pinot Noir.”
Other awards included:
- Gold Medal, Castle Rock Estate 2009 Riesling

Panel Chair for Aged White Wines (2017 and older) Erin Larkin commented, “An exciting, rewarding class. Old white wine is a beautiful thing, and widely under-explored. The best wines here show freshness and focus despite their age, and will continue to express in this way for many years to come. Not all wine ages well, and just because a wine is old doesn’t make it great. But today, we were treated to many great old wines.”

Castle Rock Estate is nestled on the eastern slopes of the Porongurup Mountain and is named after a prominent nearby granite landmark. The vineyard, which sits in Great Southern’s sub region Porongurup, has a cool and elevated northerly aspect, resulting in intensely flavoured wines, particularly Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyard was established in 1983 by Angelo and Wendy Diletti and is now run by their son Rob. Their 200-tonne winery was constructed in 2000 and in 2015 Rob Diletti was named Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year. Rob was a finalist in the 2019 Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine Winemaker of the Year awards and a finalist in the 2022 Wine Companion ‘Best Value Winery’ Awards.
